Where a neutral grey is placed next to any other colour the grey veers towards the compliment of that colour. The edges of the light colour bleeds so that they appear to be larger .Darker tones appear to look smaller because of their shaped edges

 Colour illusion.

Colour you home brighten it to look how you want it to look .What you do not have naturally especially space then make create an illusion.

An illusion is to make something that is not seem to be. You can use colour to help do that.
Colour loses its intensity as it recedes into the atmosphere. The colour of grass is naturally green and if a grassy hill is in a distant it will look blue instead of green. Yellow in a distance will look white.
We know that grass is not green because we can distinguish between illusion and fact.
We can create illusion in our homes by painting small rooms or hallways in pastels or lighter tones of these. For very big rooms you can create an illusion of bringing the walls closer by using warm colours and tones of red, yellow and orange thus making it look smaller. Darker shade of other colours will do the same.
Create an illusion of heightening a low ceiling by painting them in lighter tones than the wall, or lower a high ceiling by using darker tones than the wall to paint it.

Directional light.
One of the most important gift given to man is the gift of natural light. We should make the best of it and use it in our home brightening project. This lighting is referred to as directional light

 The light rays that comes from the north are rich in blue rays and can give coldness to a room if you decorate a room receiving northern light the room will seem cold .This room facing northern light needs to be given some warm colour treatment.
The light coming from the south will receive rays that are warm. This room when decorated in cool colours will still remain friendly.
An object that is placed against northern light will appear to look much bigger and the same object placed in southern light will appear to look smaller.
A room that faces east eastern Light that gives a room sunny mornings but muted midday. The afternoon offers no direct light. It is best to use a mix of warms and cools to balance out the daylight.
A room Facing West. Will get western Light and features afternoon and evening sun. Try using Use neutrals in this room. Using warm colors will overpower the room in the afternoon
